Dear Nick,
Thanks very much for your letter. I´m sorry I haven´t
written for such a long time but I´ve been busy revising for my exams.
My big news is that I´ve decided to spend the summer
holidays in Spain to improve my Spanish. At the moment I am writing lots of
letters to try and get a summer job. Mum and Dad are both well and send their
regards. Susie sends her love. She´s twelve next week and she´s very excited
because she´s going camping with her friends.
How are you doing with your football? Are you still in
the school team? I haven´t played for weeks because of the exams. How is your
brother? Is he still going out with Julia or have they broken up?
Say hello to your mum and dad and give them my
regards. Hope to see you soon. Keep in touch.
Best wishes,
Mark
2-An article
expressing your opinion about what life will be like in the future.
I believe we will be healthier and our lives will be
easier in the future. Firstly, scientists will find cures for many diseases and
we will also live longer. Secondly, we might also have robots to do all the
work so we will have more free time. Finally, I think with GM foods there will
be enough food for everyone.
All in all, to me, the future will be a better place
for everyone.
3- A description of yourself or anyone you know.
My sister is
in her late thirties. She is medium-height s. She has gand thin. She has got
medium-length wavy brown hair and big brown eyes with long eyelashes. She has got
an oval face with a small and straight nose and full round lips. She is quite
beautiful and what makes her look so attractive is the beauty spot she has got
over her upper lip. These are her most outstanding physical features.
As regards
her personality, she may seem like a distant or reserved woman because of her
shyness. But when you get to know her, you realize she is a very interesting,
good-tempered and warm person, who can also be really amusing and good fun when
she feels in a relaxing atmosphere.
4- A news
report for the school magazine.
Three Students Hurt in School Bus Crash
Three students were seriously injured yesterday
morning when the school bus they were travelling on swerved off the road and
crashed. The accident took place at 8 am in Hill Road in Newtown.
The bus driver was driving along Hill Road when a car
came round the corner on the wrong side of the road. He swerved off to avoid
crashing into it and drove into a small wall. Mr Grey, the car driver, said that
he was not speeding but witnesses disagree. One witness said, “He was driving
too fast. The bus driver acted quickly.”
The police arrested the car driver. The injured
students are recovering in South Shore Hospital.
1 swerved : changed direction 2 speeding speeding: driving fast 3 witnesses: viewers of an accident.
5-Film review
It's a drama. Julia Roberts is in it. It takes place in a town in
California where many people got sick. She plays a secretary who works for a law
firm. The movie is about a company that tries to hide its chemical pollution
that killed many people. In the end, the company loses the law case and has to
pay millions of dollars.
The critics say that the story is well told, that the film has a solid
direction and that it takes the truth and makes it extremely entertaining. In
my opinion the film is great and Julia Roberts´s performance is superb.
6- A letter of application
Dear Mrs Brown,
I am writing to apply for the position of part-time shop assistant as
advertised in Sunday´s Gazette.
I am a sixteen-year-old student currently in my final year at secondary
school. I am studying for my GCSEs* and I expect to do well in both English and
Maths. Although I have no work experience, I am an honest and hardworking
person. I am friendly and like to meet new people and I feel these are suitable
qualities for the position.
I am available for an interview in the afternoons. Thank you for your
consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Sarah Green

7-A pros and cons essay
Should teenagers
have mobile phones?
Most teens have
mobile phones and a lot of them are hooked on them. Is this good or bad?
Mobile phones
are certainly very useful. You can keep in touch with friends and family very
easily and quickly. Moreover, you can use it in an emergency. Mobile phones
have often saved lives.
However, mobile
phones can be dangerous. The radiation from them can damage our health if we
use them too much. They can also distract teenagers from their homework.
Spending time sending messages instead of studying can make teens fall behind
in their schoolwork.
All in all,
mobile phones are very useful gadgets to have. However, teens should use them
sensibly.
